Well folks, I messed up the voice recorder so we will just have notes this week. Sorry. :( Notes to follow:
29 Then Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out to the place of which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you’; come with us and we will do you good, for the Lordhas [a]promised good concerning Israel.” 30 But he said to him, “I will not come, but rather will go to my own land and relatives.” 31 Then he said, “Please do not leave us, inasmuch as you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will be as eyes for us. 32 So it will be, if you go with us, that [b]whatever good the Lord [c]does for us, we will [d]do for you.” Numbers 10:29-32
Timing is important -- this happened after Moses was given the Law and the Tabernacle was built. Moses invites his father-in-law to come to the Promised Land with them. He wasn't Jewish.
A Special People:
"9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;" 1 Peter 2:9
A Special Place -- Heaven!
14 “Do not let your heart be troubled; [a]believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also."
John 14:1-3
We have the promise of heaven. We should be excited. Come with us to heaven, we ought to say to others.
A Special Privilege:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you [b]always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Give that invitation. Ask people to join in our fellowship.
Store up your treasures in heaven.
You need us. We need you. The church offers people many things (but salvation is in belief in Christ alone).
1. Someone who cares
"Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. 2 Each of us is to please his neighbor [a]for his good, to his edification." Romans 15:1-2
4 "do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." Philippians 2:4
2. Someone to help carry the burden.
"Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2
"With all prayer and petition [b]pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, [c]be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints," Ephesians 6:18
3. Unconditional Love
For this, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love [a]does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." Romans 13:9-10
They came to Jesus.
Jesus didn't make suggestions. Get on it. Do it now. Love One another. Spread the word now. Are we doing everything we can? Can we do more?
Read the Bible.
Invite somebody.
