Jane and Shannon hold a conversation about rest and why it is vital for everyone who follows Jesus Christ. Without that spiritual rest, the Sabbath rest, our faith and our lives will become stagnant and we are in danger of burning out. We hope you take time to listen. The recording is about 37 minutes long. It is the unofficial start to our podcast, Bible Talk with jane and Shannon which we will begin in the New Year. The format will be different at that time but it will be the same teaching (it will be podcast format through podbean.com).

Hey Folks, God blessed us with a beautiful Christmas Eve Candlielight service. It was wonderful! Shannon gave a great sermon. I forgot to turn off the recorder so I tried to edit it. Hope I did it right. If you have a half hour to listen to a sermon, this one would be a good one to listen to! The peace the world offers is temporary. True, lasting peace originates in God. “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:14 First time there was a heavenly host seen all at once by humans. Many still miss Jesus' birth, His arrival. I. Peace on earth cannot originate with man. Not peace from war -- although we all want that. Not "let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." Not "I'd like to teach the world to sing" eiher. As humans, we can't even love the ones we love well: **Every 9 seconds in the USA a woman is beaten. **Worldwide 1 in 3 women will be beaten or raped by a known loved one. **10 million children witness abuse every day. We live in a fallen world. They wanted a political messiah, one who would stop the hardship in life, without understanding that we are the ones creating the strife. All have sinned and fall short, there will never be peace on earth until Christ returns the second time. There would have been no salvation if Jesus came as a political messiah first. Here is the peace the angels talked about: II. Real Peace "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27 "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7 The arrival of Jesus marked the beginning of God's reconciliation with man. The means of peace between God and man has entered the world. Jesus, born as a baby, fully God, fully man. Born to bear our sins, born to die as the Lamb of God. God's provision to bring the only possible way to lasting peace -- reunification with God Himself. Peace provided is peace within. "For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people." Titus 2:11 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:14 If you accept Him, You will have peace. Jesus and our relationship with Him is our true peace. "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him," and by his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility," Ephesians 2:14 The return of the King is the end: "In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. 3 Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. 5 Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord." Isaiah 2:2-5 The Christmas story is only the beginning. "Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:13-14 A great host in Revelation too! Love, Joy, Hope and Peace. We are living in the advent of the 2nd Coming of Christ!! Time is short. Act like it. Be prepared. Have your bags packed waiting for heaven. "I lift up my eyes to the mountains-- where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." Psalm 121:1-4 Man is trying to get bigger and bigger and making God smaller and smaller. God's bigger than all of it. God will never be left out. God is still on the throne. He's still saving souls. He's still creating. "Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:9-11 Jesus is alive and well andw orkin in the world. He is alive. We serve a risen Savior. "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?" Psalm 8:3-4 I. God is the Maker of All Things "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." John 1:3 Only God can make something out of nothing. God spoke all things into being. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" Proverbs 3:5-6 If we do this He'll take care of us. Humans want answers. Don't ask why. Ask "What can God do with this?" II. God has already worked things out for your good. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 This is a promise to all who love God! "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 God is always faithful to us. We have seen God in action. But sometimes we forget what He's done. III. Help is on the way "The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:17-18 He's at work in our lives. Always at work. He's already in our future waiting for us to get there. No matter what path we take God is there. God is our potter. We are the clay. We are the diamonds. God is the master cutter who makes the rocks shine. They don't shine until they are cut. God is polishing and refining us. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials." 1 Peter 1:3-6 Ultimate paradise -- being with God. Welcome back -- this is where you were meant to be! "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31 Anything we are going through is temporary. All will be well. If you hope in the Lord He will renew your strength. God is waiting for us to trust Him. "See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him." Isaiah 40:10 We just have to hold on. The end is in sight. |
