16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah." Matthew 1:1-17
Land given based genealogy. No one is accidental.
There are several women mentioned.
Promise to Abraham the Messiah would come through his line.
Tamar
Rahab
Ruth
These women were not accidental. Women of great faith in rough situations.
Their faithfulness was rewarded. Circumstances were ugly but their faithfulness was beautiful.
Bathsheba
Pulling the one negative circumstance out of David's life -- it was redeemed.
Mary
All these people are part of God's completion of the promise of a Messiah.
God's prophecy is a promise. All His promises are kept. Nothing can stop God's promise from being fulfilled.
Israel could have been destroyed but it wasn't.
God's timing was perfect.
The disciples used the roads built by the Romans.
God sent His son through a dysfunctional line. Jesus is God's promise brought to life. In spite of us, Jesus was born.
"And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham." Matthew 3:9
The line of Christ continues in everyone who follows Him.
"I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 8:11
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," Matthew 28:19
