that we may get a heart of wisdom.: Psalm 90:12
The more delicate something is, the more it is worth. The human body is fragile. No one knows when their last day on earth will be. We can die at any time.
We are withering grass:
"As for man, his days are like grass;
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children's children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all." Psalm 103:15-19
Even if we live over 100 years, our life will just be a blip of time. Our days are short.
15 For we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding." 1 Chronicles 29:15
“Man who is born of a woman
is few of days and full of trouble." Job 14:1
Life is just a mist.
"13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”-- 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes." James 4:13-14
There is nothing wrong with plans or goals -- but hold them loosely. We personally can't guarantee anything.
"The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold[a] of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
There's more to this life than we see; everyone is fragile. Everyone.
You are a masterpiece of the Creator. God creates each of us individually. We are valuable.
"For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well." Psalm 139:13-14
God put us together and we work. We are from God, of God's breath. Without God there is only death available. God's love for fragile creations...God knows we're fragile and sinners. He wants to bring us back to Him. Our frailness is gone when we are with God in heaven. God knows what the world does to us physically. If we don't know Christ life is scary.
"So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 Return, O Lord! How long?
Have pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the favor[a] of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!" Psalm 90:12-17
Realize the value of your days.
Application #1 Learn more about God. Gotta focus on Jesus! Gotta seek Jesus.
"My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
3 yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
4 if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God." Proverbs 2:1-5
This has to be the most important thing in our lives -- the best way to spend our time.
#2 Delight in the way of the Lord.
The steps of a man are established by the Lord,
when he delights in his way;
24 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
for the Lord upholds his hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his children begging for bread." Psalm 37:23-25
Walk in the Way. God doesn't forsake us. He is always faithful.
#3 Seek, grow, do.
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33
If you seek God first, everything else is gravy.
#4 You are not alone.
"fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me." Psalm 23:4
This is a life verse -- talking about the shadow of death during life.
