God's Grace is our sufficiency
Once for all.
"12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[a] by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12
"For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God." Romans 6:10
Grace and Peace:
"Simon[a] Peter, a servant[b] and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord." 2 Peter 1:1-2
We get our knowledge from the Word.
3 "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to[a] his own glory and excellence,[b] 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire." 2 Peter 1:3-4
Provisions and promises.. You have everything you need to live a godly life. All things provided.
"28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
God wants us to live abundant lives here, right now, on earth. WE are more with Christ.
"For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold
from those who walk uprightly." Psalm 84:11
I WILL promises from Jesus:
I will never drive you away (John 6:37).
I will make you fishers of men (Matthew 4:19)
I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28)
I will ask the Father for an advocate for you (John 14:16)\
I will go and prepare a place for you (John 14:3).
I will come back for you and bring you to me (John 14:3).
For this very reason -- application:
"5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue,[a] and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love." 2 Peter 1:5-7
These virtues build upon each other:
First, Faith is the foundation. Then you want to have goodness (or virtue in this translation); You gain knowledge by seeking it -- this causes you to begin to mature in your faith; This leads to self-control. Which leads to perseverance/steafastness which leads to godliness (fruit-bearing); then mutual affection and Love...! Woo hoo.
Go to God in prayer, not in despair.
Growing is intentional. Getting knowledge takes work. "Increasing" means never ending -- always -- never stops. Your faith deepens as you mature in Christ.
"For if these qualities[a] are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins." 2 Peter 1:8-9
Therefore....
"10 Therefore, brothers,[a] be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:10-11
Practice. Practice. Practice. It takes work. You can't follow at a distance. You grow or you die.
