blessed is the one who takes refuge in him." Psalm 34:8
Tons of Bible verses about food and drink. Time of Christ the most precious commodity was water: Israel had water.
“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord,
“when I will send a famine through the land--
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.
12 People will stagger from sea to sea
and wander from north to east,
searching for the word of the Lord,
but they will not find it." Amos 8:11-12
People are starving for the Word of God. People are forgetting their hunger -- they satisfy themselves with everything but God. Everything else is temporary.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled." Matthew 5:6
If you seek; if you seek God he will fill you. He'll give you what you need if you ask Him. If you are full of yourself, you have no room for God.
"You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water." Psalm 63:1
"for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things." Psalm 107:9
“Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.
3 Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David." Isaiah 55:1-3
Remember to be hungry -- Learn constantly. Hunger is a gift -- feed your soul. Constantly searching for God and more of him.
"31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:31-33
"3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." Deuteronomy 8:3
Jesus uses the Word to fight against Satan. We need to too.
Application: Check your grocery list.
"33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:33-35
Come to the Table: Read the Word
"2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?" 1 Corinthians 3:2-3
If you aren't growing in Christ, you'll still a baby Christian. If you don't know the Word you're a baby christian.
"14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil." Hebrews 5:14
Get hungry. Find the real food.
Watch out for the fillers
"One who is full loathes honey from the comb,
but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet." Proverbs 27:7
Everything short of the Word will not fill you.
27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” John 6:27
When you're truly hungry, you're thankful for anything to eat --even correction, training, rebuke..
Watch what you eat.
Watch where you eat.
Watch who you eat with.
When we go out into the world watch. There are consequences for what we eat in the world. Seek God.
And for those who persevere:
‘Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them,’[a]
nor any scorching heat.
17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’[b]
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’[c]” Revelation 7:16
